Deployments

  • Bresnan Communications purchased seven Rev-Gen ad server units from AdGorilla's AdGorillaq division. The equipment will allow the MSO to expand along with its customer base, adding or upgrading hardware and software as needed, rather than replacing its entire system.
  • Aurora Networks reached a new milestone with the shipment of its 1,000th LcWDM transmitter to Suddenlink Communications. The LcWDM technology is an 'O'-band wavelength division multiplexing system that has evolved to an eight wavelength system, which is reportedly the highest number of wavelengths available in the industry today. Aurora's solution provides MSOs with a way to segment an existing node service area up to eight times over distances up to 30 km without constructing or using additional new fibers.
  • Broadcom announced it has shipped more than one million units of its advanced channel bonding cable modem silicon for downstream channel bonding cable modems. Compatible with existing DOCSIS 2.0 and next-gen CMTS equipment, the cable modem silicon delivers downstream data rates of up to 150 Mbps and enables MSOs to deploy downstream channel bonding functionality immediately, without delays or upgrades to their CMTS infrastructures.
  • NetCologne of Germany is using Cedar Point Communications SAFARI C3 multimedia switching system for the delivery of VoIP throughout the Cologne region, where NetCologne serves more than 500,000 customers. The deployment represents a significant expansion of Cedar Point's footprint in the German and European markets.
  • Convergys announced a multi-year contract renewal that will provide Cox Communications with expanded relationship management functionality to streamline order entry workflows, provide intelligent customer alerts and manage campaigns in its markets. This new software functionality delivered to Cox is based on Convergys' Customer Service Manager and Dynamic Decisioning solutions.
  • Integra5 announced that quad-play IPTV and digital cable TV provider Panhandle Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (PTCI) is the first operator to offer personalized, multi-device converged services with the simultaneous launch of Integra5's TV and PC 'Picture' Caller ID. Powered by the i5 Converged Services Platform (i5 CSP), the applications allow subscribers throughout PTCI's footprint in Oklahoma and Texas to customize their communications experience across TVs and PCs.
  • Bresnan Communications is using Mixed Signals' Sentry digital content monitor. According to the vendor, a key factor in Bresnan choosing Sentry is its historical reporting capability, which when combined with its ability to monitor programming at the MPEG, IP and quality levels, enables Bresnan to more quickly identify the root cause of any issues.
  • Nortel announced that Comcast was testing the vendor's 100 Gigabit/sec optical solution at the 71st meeting of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) conference in Philadelphia. Comcast's network trial was the first time real traffic is run over a 100G wavelength on its existing network that is also carrying live 10G and 40G links. The trial ran in parallel over the same optical infrastructure that supports a combination of HD video, Internet and voice traffic on Comcast's 40G national backbone network.
  • TANDBERG Television reported that its OpenStream digital services platform is being deployed by its business partner Star Communication Network Technology Co. Ltd. for three regional cable operators in China. The TANDBERG systems will enable the introduction of on-demand TV services in Shandong province, Gansu province and Yangquan city by the summer of 2008.
  • In related news, TANDBERG's OpenStream also was selected by Tianjin TEDA Cable TV Network Co. (Tianjin TEDA Cable) in China to expand its cable TV offering into VOD and nPVR services.
  • Great Lakes Data Systems announced that TVMAX, a MSO serving approximately 350 apartment complexes with over 100,000 passings in Houston, signed a multi-year agreement for the vendor's WinCable billing and subscriber management solution.
