BIAP Inc. reached an agreement with Time Warner Cable for the use of its ETV User Agent in TWC's advanced advertising platform. The five-year license agreement will, upon deployment of the software, enable TWC digital set-tops to run EBIF applications created by the operator or by third parties such as TV networks. In addition to supporting third-party EBIF, the BIAP ETV User Agent will support the operator's newest MDN navigator.

French cable operator Numericable is deploying Juniper Networks M- and T-series routing platforms, Integrated Security Gateway (ISG) platforms and FW/VPN security appliances for its next-gen network. Numericable is one of the first European cable ops to migrate to an all-IP backbone network, enabling it to accelerate rollout of services such as VOD, HDTV and Internet services at up to 100 Mb/s.
-
Marco Island Cable (MIC) recently deployed Lindsay Broadband Inc.'s Fiber To The MDU (FTTM), a high-output (+50dB) mini fiber node with a built-in 10 hour UPS. This gives MIC the reliability to provide primary phone services in torrential weather, without the fear of dropping phone calls due to power surges or outages. This especially important since MIC is located in a heavily saturated retirement community (with many apartment complexes, condos and MDUs) in severe storm-prone Florida.

Suddenlink Communications is providing cable subs in Texas, with more states to follow, with VOD on one of the first platforms that has SeaChange International VOD management software controlling third-party video servers. Suddenlink launched VOD by using SeaChange's Axiom On Demand content delivery platform to deploy SeaChange software in a central location supporting Motorola video servers and delivering VOD content to 23 different markets. Axiom software running at Suddenlink's College Station, TX, media operations center is controlling nine Motorola video servers to provide VOD to digital cable customers in a geographic region covering several thousand square miles. The one-of-a-kind operation receives content centrally, propagates the content across the Suddenlink backbone to video servers distributed throughout Suddenlink regions, and then streams content to subs. In other news, Buckeye CableSystem upgraded its existing SeaChange VOD platform to include new SeaChange software and flash memory servers to help grow its VOD offerings to its 90,000 digital sub in Ohio and Michigan. This upgrade supports Buckeye's introduction of HD content as well as the continued growth of its traditional VOD business.
