Broadband Gear Report Hot Product Alert: RF Signal Management Products and Solutions for Switched Digital Video Headend Architecture and Edge QAM Device Wiring

Flexibility, Performance, and Rack Space Density
In today's marketplace, operators face an ever increasing competitive landscape for subscribers. Competition from Telco providers is one of the driving factors in exploring the benefits of a switched digital video network. For SDV architecture, most designs utilize an Edge QAM device which provides multiple carriers on each of the typical 4 output RF connectors. Service groups are then created based on a number of criteria, and therefore consideration must be given to the RF Signal management product requirements.

The ViewTEQ products below comprise the tools and solutions needed for a quality and successful deployment. ViewTEQ can also engineer a customized RF product solution when required.

1. MCP-111 Series / rack mounted modular passives
The MCP series offers a wide variety of modular passives for headend and hubsite RF splitting/combining requirements. Multiple configurations are available such as triple DC or 2-way, dual 4-way, or 8-way. Passband solutions offered are, 5-1000MHz (Broadband), 54-1000MHz (Forward Band), or the new custom tuned series which is optimized for the QAM carrier range of 550-1002MHz. Ask about our all new QAM carrier tuned 4x4 module!!!

The MCP passives are color-coded and designed to optimize rack space density, provide superior performance, and exceptional value. The density factor is (4) MCP modules per 1RU, that means (8) 4-ways in 1RU. All modules are 100% QC tested to guarantee consistent performance throughout. Best in class port-to-port isolation (40dB Min), return loss (20dB Min), and flatness specifications have caught the attention of many operators.

2. MFS-205 / MFS-208 Series - Forward Path Distribution Unit
This completely modular platform is an ideal integrated solution to simplify the distribution of forward path signals routed to optical transmitters. The 2RU chassis is architecture design and maintenance friendly, allows for simple and efficient insertion of all system broadcast, midcast, and narrowcast signals; for distribution to a capacity of 8 outputs. These outputs are segmented into a single broadcast group of 8, midcasting groups of 4 or 2, and four narrowcast inputs to a single output. Complete power supply redundancy, and alarm condition management features are standard. An RF redundancy switch feature is also available. Forward band units tuned for either 54-870 or 1002MHz. Multiple gain configurations are offered at no additional cost for input level alignment with your particular type transmitter. Excellent density, superior design solution, and exceptional value make the MFS-205 and the new 1GHz MFS-208 Series the obvious choice. Other optional powering solutions such as -48V are also available.

3. MCA-111 Series / Modular Headend Amplifier
The complete 1RU modular chassis is the perfect solution for compact headend amplification. The unit offers redundant powering and alarm management as standard features, while allowing for the installation of up to (4) HAR/HAF amplifier modules for both forward and return path applications. Amplifier modules offer input stage plug-in padding and plug-in equalization, with an additional plug-in pad at the output section. Ideal for use a drive, launch, or isolation amplifier. Gain options available for forward path applications include 20, 24, 27, 32dB, and 35dB up to 1GHz. -48V powering solutions available.

4. MCS-111 Headend Amplifier and Switching System
Similar to the MCA-111 headend amplifier chassis, the MCS-111 unit occupies a very small 1RU footprint, and provides operators with a completely modular system for RF redundancy. The rear side of the chassis has four modular slots; populated with 2 HAF or HAR series amplifier modules, 1 high isolation 2-way splitter module with plug-in equalization; and an RFS-001 switch module. The MCS-111 unit allows headend engineers to configure for either return path or forward path applications where 99.999% system reliability is required. -48Vpowering option available.
